Why is my 4-month puppy lethargic, has diarrhea, and warm belly?

Hi my 16week old pup has not been himself the last 4 days - his had Diarrhea (I have changed him to plain pasta and rice cooked in stock with a little cooked chicken to see if that helps, it has a helped a little bit), his also not himself, lethargic, extremely cuddly (normally his crazy) and his belly is quite warm and eyes are red, his got an appointment with the vet for his 16 week vaccination and a checkup

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Chops. I'm concerned that his belly being warm can be due to a fever. I think he needs to see a vet as soon as possible for his illness, and if you can take him into one today, that would be great for him. Best of luck.

Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. Puppies do sleep a lot, so if Callan is just sleeping in between running around and playing normally this might be normal puppy behaviour. If Callan is very low energy all the time, and you feel the tummy is bloated, then I recommend a visit to the vet. You cannot tell their internal temperature without a rectal thermometer and 'feeling' them gives very inaccurate results of temperature. Possible causes of a puppy not feeling well include intestinal worms, a tummy ache from a change in food, a virus, and other more serious causes include severe viruses such as parvovirus, intestinal obstructions, congenital malformations, etc. Best of luck with Callan, I hope he is up and running around and playing again soon!

I have a dog a puppy who is showing signs of being sick with diarrhea vomiting lethargy fever and loss of appetite
Vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy are very concerning in puppies as they may be a sign of a potentially life threatening infection - parvovirus. Other conditions such as intestinal parasites, toxin ingestion, foreign body obstruction, or intestinal torsion can cause these signs as well and all require veterinary attention. Puppies can become dehydrated very quickly, and Chewy may need supportive care. I recommend that he is seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible, preferably within the next several hours. I hope this helps and that Chewy starts feeling better soon!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Diarrhea and inappetence can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Rex evaluated by your veterinarian at this time for further assessment and treatment. Loss of appetite and lethargy can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Luna evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. I am worried about a respiratory infection / possible pneumonia. This needs to be addressed sooner rather than later so that antibiotic therapy can begin right away. In the past two days Our 4 month old red heeler has not been eating, has a dry nose and has went from being filled out to very skinny and doesn't want to play at all. All he does is lay around. Also has diaria and is throwing up. What should I do?
Hi there! Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Sorry to hear that Gus is not feeling well. Vomiting, diarrhea and lethargy are quite concerning in any dog, especially puppies because of the diseases they can get such as parvovirus. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. They would be able to check for this disease as well as checking for other possibilities such as intestinal worms or other infections. The sooner these diseases are diagnosed the better the outcome tends to be. At the very least, Gus can be started on anti-nausea and anti-diarrhea medications and his hydration status can be checked. It sounds as your pet is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking Chopper to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

This sounds like a serious condition that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. Good Evening...thank you for contacting Boop by Petco! I can tell you are worried about Rio. It can be challenging with these little guys, especially when they are so young because they are more susceptible to disease. The eye discharge, while it looks quite gross, is not of urgent or immediate concern, but does warrant a trip to the veterinarian in the next 24-48 hours if possible. Something relatively easy you can perform is a temperature. If you have a regular digital thermometer (or can purchase one @ a local pharmacy/convenience store) you can take Rio's temperature. You can place the thermometer rectally (ideal) while using vasoline, lubricant, or mild dishwashing or hand soap - be sure the silver part of the tip of the thermometer is completely inserted (insert ~1/2 inch) into the anus. Alternatively, you can take the temperature by laying the thermometer deep under the axillary area (arpit of the front leg) on the skin and laying the leg back down over the thermometer wh

Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. From your description, it sounds as though Muffin has a bacterial skin infection and the bumps you are seeing are pustules. If he is lethargic and having diarrhea in addition to the pustules on the skin, I would recommend taking him in to be seen by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made.
