My dog has a red lump on his chest. When should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Bully | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 6 months old

We noticed this red lump on my dogs chest this morning. It feels like there is a ball underneath the skin. It moves freely and does not bother him at all. Not sure if I need to make an appointment with our vet or not.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It looks like a bruise or a hot spot. If it does not bother Diesel at all and he is well in himself you could monitor him at home for 1-2 days. If it is a bruise or allergic reaction, it should go down without treatment. However, if it starts to bother your dog, please make an appointment with your local vets.
