My 3-week-old puppy is always hungry and nibbling. What do I feed her?

Is there anything else I have to do to properly care for my 3 week old puppy? She weighs 3 pounds now and I give her 2 oz of puppy formula every 4-6 hours. I keep her warm and she sleeps most of the day. She pees often and poops about 2-3 times a day. Today she is starting to nibble— whether it is at our hands or clothing. She cries after I feed her bc she seemingly wants more but is it okay to give her more? She is also starting to growl/ bark.

She is so cute! It sounds like you are doing a great job. It's ok to give her more, and I'd start weaning her onto puppy food. To help her wean and to get used to dry food, I would soak a high quality puppy formulated dry food in warm water until soft. Then mix that with puppy formula such as KMR to make a mush the consistency of oatmeal. Over the next two weeks, gradually increase the amount of dry puppy food and decrease the amount of water and KMR you use until she is eating the dry puppy food only.

Good questions! You can start weaning Soska's puppies onto a puppy formulated food. It's important that their food is for puppies as they need higher amounts of calories, calcium, and protein to meet their growth needs. Feed them according to the package instructions on their bag of food. To help them wean and to get used to dry food, I would soak a high quality puppy formulated dry food in warm water until soft. Then mix that with puppy formula such as KMR to make a mush the consistency of oatmeal. Over the next three weeks, gradually increase the amount of dry puppy food and decrease the amount of water and KMR you use until they are eating the dry puppy food only. You can leave water out for them, but they will still be nursing and getting both water and puppy formula from the puppy mush, so they likely won't drink it at first. It's fine to start introducing puppy food at this age, but it will take 2-3 weeks before they will start to wean off of milk. It's best to feed wet food at this age. If you have the dry dog biscuits, then you can add water to them to make them soft. It's best to only give a little at a time, or they can get diarrhea. I would start by only offering a teaspoon to each pup twice a day. It can be gradually increased from there. At 3 weeks of age, you can actually start introducing wet puppy food. I would wet it down with some puppy milk and put it on a paper plate. This way he can explore the wet food and try some. If your veterinarian evaluated him and say he is physically ok then I would not worry too much that something is wrong. I would just continue with trying to feed him the bottle but also offer and wean him onto the wet food. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

I would probably back down on the actual meat products as they may be rich for Luna's little tummy. Royal Canin makes a canned pate' called Baby Dog and its meant for weaning puppies. It's got all the nutrients she needs. I would use that mixed with some formula soaked puppy kibble. Around 5 weeks old, start to decrease the amount of formula. She’s adorable! Yes you can give puppy wet food and soak puppy dry food so it’s soft and feed that. She doesn’t need milk any longer. I recommend feeding small meals frequently, about 6-8 times a day and let her eat as much as she wants. Be sure to stimulate her to pee and poop by using a warm wet cloth and wipe around under her tail. As she grows you can reduce the feeding gradually when she’s not interested in eating each time. Great question! You are correct that it would be better for Irati to be with her mother until she is at least eight weeks old, but if she can't be returned to her mother, it's fine to start on her on puppy food. I recommend using a high quality puppy food such as Royal Canin, Hill's Science diet, Purina ProPlan, or Iams. I will give you a method to get her used to puppy food. To help er wean and to get used to dry food, I would soak a high quality puppy formulated dry food in warm water until soft. Then mix that with puppy formula such as KMR to make a mush the consistency of oatmeal. I can certainly understand being concerned about your puppy not eating enough. It's really not the best for for your puppy, as it's not formulated to meet her nutritional needs. It's not something that is recommended to give to a puppy on a regular basis, usually only when the animal is sick. In addition, there may be ingredients in the baby food that is not safe for her to ingest. It could be that she isn't used to dry dog food, and you can try making a puppy mush for her to see if that helps. I would soak a high quality puppy formulated dry food in warm water until soft. Then mix that with puppy formula such as KMR to make a mush the consistency of oatmeal. Over the next two weeks, gradually increase the amount of dry puppy food and decrease the amount of water and KMR you use until she is eating the dry puppy food only. If she still doesn't want to eat much, then I would have her seen before the 15th.
