My dog's bark is cracking. Could a swallowed bone be the cause?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 5 years and 6 months old | 72 lbs

My I noticed that my dogs bark sometimes sounds like it cracks recently. It’s been a couple of weeks now. He can still bark but his high pitched bark is now cracking. He’s still eating and acting normally but his bark has never sounded like that before. The only thing I can think of is a a few weeks ago he swallowed something while we were on a walk that could’ve been a chicken bone. He was also wearing a cone for a few weeks due to a hot spot not sure if that could’ve hurt his throat though.

If Jimmy seems otherwise fine I would not be overly concerned about it. He may have a bit of inflammation in his throat (maybe from the bone?). If his bark doesn't go back to normal in a week or so then you should have your vet check him.
