My dog jumped from the car and is limping. What should I do now?

My dog just jumped from the rear window,, out of our vehicle while on to the street. He has a few nicks and scrapes and is limping off and on. What do I do?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Max. Poor boy! He's limping because he's in pain, and unfortunately there are no OTC pain medications you can give him. Many human ones are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. You need to take him into a vet immediately to get examined and treated. Best of luck.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Charlie! Causes of limping can be just from a strain or a sprain, but other causes could be fracture or ligament tear. If resting doesn't resolve the limp I recommend having your Vet examine Charlie. I do not recommend giving him any human OTC pain medications. I hope this helps and I wish Charlie a speedy recovery!

What can I give my dog for pain he sprained his right front leg he's can bend it but walks with a limp
Legally, we are prohibited from recommending any medication without a physical exam and a VPCR (veterinarian-patient-client relationship). Many OTC medications can be toxic to dogs, so it important to discuss them with your veterinarian before giving anything. If Max is extremely painful, have him examined at the nearest veterinary ER. If he is behaving normally, crate him or restrict activity until morning and have him seen by your vet when the clinic opens.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Limping is a sign of pain. It sounds as though it is likely a strain or a sprain. The best thing to do it limit his activity because continued use will not allow a strain or sprain to heal. So no running, jumping, no stairs or jumping on/off the furniture and leash walks only for at least 7 days. If the limp doesn't improve with in those 7 days Shadow should be seen by a Vet or sooner if it worsens. It is not wrong to have Shadow seen sooner than later as well. Do not give any human pain medications, dogs do not metabolize drugs like people do and they may interfere with medications your Vet may want to prescribe. Hi My dog (standard/big poodle) has pain in his left forepaw. We didn't see exactly, but this morning he was running out in the garden... He fell and was clearly suffering and crying. He limps now since morning. What can we do to help him? Thanks!
Poor Max! He could have injured himself playing in the garden. I recommend resting him for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a lead only, and bring him right back in when he's done. If he still appears painful after this time, then I would take Max into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. He may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given.

No there is not really any medication we can recommend you give Didier without having examined him. Also, many over the counter medications are not safe to give and it is difficult to get the correct dosing for a small dog. I suggest you just rest him strictly for the next 7 days. Leash walk to go outside to use the toilet only then right back inside. No running, jumping or playing. No stairs if that can be helped. If no improvement within that week or if he gets worse then you should get him to your vet for an exam. If he does seem better after a week then you can go back to GRADUALLY increasing his exercise over the next couple of weeks. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

My dog is walking uncomfortable from today. He had jumped maybe hit his leg. Will he be ok or what should I do?
HI, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Baby! I am assuming Baby is limping? Causes of limping really depends on whether it is a front or hind leg. It could be just a strain or sprain but it could also be Lyme disease, ACL tear and many other things. If he is acting lethargic and not eating he should see a Vet today. If he is otherwise fine then rest him and see how he is by Monday. If by Monday he is still limping then he should be seen by your Vet. I do not recommend giving Baby any human medications. My 70lb, 10 year old dog just woke from a nap limping. there was no fall early that i saw witnessed. I'm suspecting arthritis or cramp. What relief can i give him til i can get to my vet tomorrow?
Hello and thank your for contacting Boop by Petco. I am afraid most of the human pain killers must not be used in dogs as they can be toxic. You should keep Steve rested, with limited exercise on a leash, no running, jumping or going up or down the stairs. If he continues to limp thought the evening, please take him to your vets tomorrow.

My puppy is limping, not whimpering or complaining otherwise but the limp is noticeable. I do not have a vet and has only taken him to Petco for vaccinations so I’m not really sure what to do
Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. I'm sorry to hear that Dexter is limping! Young dogs can limp for a number of reasons including trauma, "growing pains", developmental abnormalities, infection or inflammation of the bones, joints, or surrounding soft tissue structures. I would recommend restricting Dexter's activity for at least 7 days to see if rest will help his limp resolve. If this does not help or if the limp gets worse at any time, I recommend having him evaluated by a veterinarian. Many Petcos have wellness centers that provide comprehensive veterinary care. This way, Dexter can have a complete physical exam performed to better localize his pain. The veterinarian will examine the lame leg(s) from the tip of his toes, all the way up to his spine to look for evidence of pain. He/she may recommend x-rays of the leg(s) to look for evidence of trauma. Just a reminder to NEVER give dogs any pain medication that is intended for humans, as these can be lethally tox

Poor Max! Max could have a soft tissue injury such as a sprain or muscle strain, or it's also possible he could have fractured something. Max should be seen by a vet to determine the source of the injury. For now, keep Max as quiet and calm as possible. Don't let him jump on/off furniture, and keep his walking to a minimum. If he's not using that leg normally within the next day or two, he needs to be seen by the vet. Do *NOT* give him anything for pain. There are no human pain meds that are safe and effective for dogs, and anything you give him could conflict with a more effective medication that the vet prescribes. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Nico! He is adorable!! If Nico has been limping with out improvement for the last 2-3 days I would have him examined by your Vet. Limping indicates pain even if you can't localize it. Hopefully it is just a sprain or a strain but it could be a chip fracture or a growth plate fracture since Niko is so young. You Vet may want to take 1-2 X-rays of the area they find pain in. Hopefully Nico will only require rest and anti-inflammatory medications. Do not give Nico any human OTC medications, He is very young and dogs do not metabolize human drugs like we do and they have a narrow margin of safety in dogs. It will also mask his pain for the vet and will interfere with medications they may want to prescribe. I hope this helps and I wish Nico a speedy recovery!
