Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund (Miniature Smooth Haired) | Female | spayed | 8 years and 4 months old | 10.5 lbs
Took dog to park today for 3 hours in 88 degree weather. She was leashed entire time so did not play hard and rested often. I brought water but she didn’t drink much but was very thirsty when we got home. Tonight she has not been able to sleep and has been very restless. Also of note is I gave her monthly hw/flea prevention (Sentinal) with dinner tonight. I guess my question is could she have gotten heat stroke today? She really didn’t have any other symptoms, just not herself 6-8 hrs later

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Symptoms of heat stroke are usually apparent within a few hours from exposure to high ambient temperature. The most common symptoms are lethargy, weakness, panting and vomiting. Development heat stress symptoms 6-8hrs after a walk is rather unlikely but definitely possible. Ideally you should to take Maisie's temperature (human thermometer is fine, but it has to be measured in the rectum) and if it is above 104F, it will be heat stress. In that case you should cool her down and take her to your local vets.
