French bulldog shaking head, scratching ear: Is it an ear infection?

Hi my French bulldog is having ear irriatation problems which 4 months ago he had an issue with & was prescribed anti biotics for a month which finally seemed to work but now he’s constantly shaking his head & scratch his Right ear I’ll attack pictures of both ears the picture that shows gunk in it is his Left ear not the one that is giving him the issue.. please can you tell me what I should do Thanks Chris

Hi Chris! I suspect that Harley may have an ear infection. Ear infections in dogs can be caused by yeast, bacteria, or ear mites. I'd take him into a vet today to get this diagnosed and treated. Best of luck.

It sounds like Neka could have an ear infection, and the dry coat could be due to dandruff or allergies. I'd have her seen by a vet. The ear problem really needs to be checked out promptly, as leaving it untreated can lead to hearing loss. I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Remy! Remy likely has allergies or an ear infection. He should see your Vet to help figure out why is is so extremely itchy. Ear infections are diagnosed on ear exam and cytology of the waxy debris in the ears. Allergies are sadly very common in French Bull dogs and can be managed and not cured. We usually manage them with omega 3 fish oils, antihistamines, apoquel or cytopoint for the scratching, a diet change in case it is a food allergies and antibiotic or anti-yeast medications if there is an active skin infection. A skin scrape should also be done to be sure he doesn't have mites like scabies which is VERY itchy. Remy sounds absolutely miserable and needs Veterinary care. I wish you both the best!

Hi. My french bulldog puppy has red liquid coming Out of his creases and red and brown ear wax looking liquid from his ears. He has also been very itchy.
Poor pup! It looks like he probably has an ear infection, as well as a skin conditions such as allergies, a bacterial or fungal skin infection, or skin mites (mange) based on what I can see in the photos. The ear infection will need prescription ear drops from your vet to treat. Treatment for the skin condition will depend on what the underlying problem is, so you'll want to get a diagnosis first in order to know what is needed. I would recommend taking your pup to the vet for an exam when you are able to. He/she can examine the discharge in her ear to see what kind of infection is present, and can also do some simple skin tests if needed to diagnose the problem so he can get started on appropriate treatment.

It's probably a severe ear infection, Ear infections are very common in dogs, it is usually caused by either yeast or bacterial disease. the treatment is usually simple and straightforward, you will have to take him to the vet and get the ears checked, then a prescription ear drops will be prescribed according to the infectious agent. it can wait for your vet tomorrow.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. I'm sorry to hear that Brigg is shaking his head so much. These are classic clinical signs of an external ear infection, or otitis externa. I recommend bringing Brigg to your veterinarian at their next available appointment for an exam. Your veterinarian can perform an ear smear of any debris in the ears, and look at this under a microscope. Most ear infections are either bacterial and/or yeast infections, treated with topical medications. I hope this is helpful!

Ferdinand has been shaking his head very often, usually that is his que that his ears need to be cleaned but even after cleaning them he’s still shaking his head constantly. Could he have an ear infection?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your dog. I am concerned that he has an ear infection. He needs to see his veterinarian. The ears will be examined including deep inside as the dog's ear drum requires a special instrument in order to be visualized. Then a swab will be taken from each ear to be examined under the microscope. This will allow the veterinarian to determine if an infection is in fact present and if so, what medication will be needed to treat it. I hope this information helps!

Hi, and thanks for your question. This could be due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). The ear are affected by very severe and chronic infection. If it happened only one time then yes, nothing to worry about. if it happens several times a day Gideon is likely suffering from either an ear infection or a foreign body in the ear. in that case you need to take him to the vet ASAP.
