My dog is limping on his front paw but shows no pain. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 75 lbs

I’ve recently notice my dog has had a limp and has been babying his right front paw. I have checked his paws for anything that might be sticking him and found nothing. I’ve given his paw and leg a squeeze all the way up to the shoulder and moved his joints around all of which has elicit no yipe or any show of pain. He has been playing as usual and his energy levels hasn’t changed.

Limping is a sign of pain so Taz is in pain if he's limping. He may have injured his paw. I recommend resting him for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a leash, and bring him right back in when he's done. If he still appears painful after this time, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. He may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I hope this helps!
