Hello! Please help. I was cleaning my betta fish’s tank and I think I accidentally ripped one of his fins. I feel awful. Is there anything I can/should do? Will he be ok?

As long as you maintain pristine water quality via filtration and regular partial water changes, he should heal up. Use only conditioned water that is temperature matched to prevent stress or shock. Bettas do best between 78 F and 80 F. Consider a product, such as Stress Coat, to promote healing. https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/api-stress-coat-aquarium-water-conditioner

Maintain pristine water quality. That's the cornerstone for healing and recovery. Use plain aquarium salt (NOT table or Epsom salt) as a general tonic to reduce stress, improve gill function, treat minor infection and aid in recovery. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of salt per gallon of water in a cup or two of tank water and gently pour it into the tank. Treat with salt for no more than 14 days then reassess fin condition. Perform partial water changes afterwards to decrease salinity. Use only conditioned water that is temperature matched to prevent stress or shock. Bettas do best between 78 F and 80 F.

As long as the damage is not too severe, they should regrow. Clean water is critical. Use a water conditioner such as StressCoat to aid healing. Be sure to maintain water temperature between 78 F and 80 F.

Given the right tank conditions and diet, she may regrow all or part of her fin. Maintain pristine water quality via filtration and regular partial water changes. Offer a healthy diet and minimize stress. It can take weeks to months, so be patient.
