My cat's paw is bitten and oozing. Does she need a vet or home care?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Turkish Van | Female | spayed | 7 years and 8 months old | 7.05 lbs

My cat into a fight with a stray tomcat (I presume he has had no vaccinations) and had bitten by him. She seems to have bite marks on both her from paws. Since a few hours ago I realised she’s licking one particular wound continuously and there seems to be a transparent liquid oozing out. Since my country is under lock down, could you please suggest any medicine I could get? Or taking her to the vet would be the safest option? (The picture attached is the picture of her inner left paw)

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. First of all, you need to stop Biscuit from licking the wounds. Head cone usually works best. You should clean the wounds with warm, boiled water twice a day until they scab up. If Biscuit becomes lethargic, off food or you notice that the wounds are hot to touch, painful or swollen, you will need to take her to your local vets.
