My dog got stuck and is in pain. What to do before the vet opens?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 3 months old | 45 lbs

My dog got stuck with another dog and I think somethings wrong. She's in pain and won't lay on her bed. I think they must've pulled apart? The vet doesn't open until 8. Will she be okay? What can I do in the mean time?

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I am sorry to hear about Tomi. You should apply cold compress in that area and wait until your vet is open. Serious damage to genital area from getting stuck is very uncommon in dogs but it can definitely cause a tear, swelling and a lot of pain. Unfortunately, human painkillers are generally not safe in dogs and should not be used, so there is nothing that you can give to Tomi at the moment.
