Is a pigeon with a twisted neck contagious to my dog or family? Can I keep it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | unneutered | 0 lbs

I found this pigeon today and i suspect it has paramyxovirus because it's neck is weirdly twisted and it keeps crashing. Is the disease infectious to the dog or human and will it get okay by itself and what precautions should i take in case i want to keep it ? Please try to answer asap because i want to keep it but not at cost of anyone else's safety

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Paramyxovirus is not contagious to dogs or human. If you want to keep it, you should put it in a box, in quiet environment with water and food available at all times. However, If the pigeon is not taking any food or water and cannot keep the balance, you should take him to your local vets.
