My dog bit my other dog's ear and left a hole. Does it need a vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Male | 4 months and 19 days old | 15 lbs

My mini schnauzer bit my Boston Terrier on the ear and left a hole. Very little bleeding. Washed it and put some Curad Germ Shield (antimicobial wound gel) on. Should I keep it covered or open? Skin glue or not? Dylan seems unaffected by it.

I believe that needs a stitch to close it. I'd take Dylan into a vet now to have this done. He will also need antibiotics to prevent infection (a dog's mouth has a lot of bacteria), which the vet can prescribe. I do not recommend trying to treat this yourself at home.

Ear tears are pretty common. They often look worse than they are and can bleed, a lot! Clean it up really well and if she is scratching put a cone on her so she doesn't make it worse. You can likely treat this yourself if it's minor but if you think it needs stitching or she needs pain killers or get infected then Off to the vet.

Hello Our dog got a bit of a cut on her ear. Does this seem deep enough to you to warrant an emergency visit to vet for stitches or a follow up appt with one tomorrow?
That looks like a fairly deep laceration, and if it seems to go all the way through, if it was a bite wound, or if there is excessive bleeding (often dogs will shake their heads and the bleeding will start again) it would be best to see a vet tonight. It can be more difficult to close an older wound. If it is actually a more superficial wound in person there's a chance your vet might recommend bandaging the ear or even using surgical tissue glue to close it and in that case it might be okay to wait until the morning. If you're not sure it's always safest to see an emergency vet.

Hi, have you promptly disinfected it ? If so, you could give it a bit of time and disinfect it on a daily basis and see if it does heal on its own. If you haven’t it is best to see the vet as dog’s teeth carry a lot of infection and Bubba might need some medications. Hope goes well, I also have a Basset ! She was bitten on her ear last year and it did heal without any antibiotics but I must admit it does not happen very often ! Hope all goes well !

My dog is a 6 month old pit and his ear was bitten by another dog bad his ear isn’t bleeding anymore but the cut is deep is there anything I can give him to help him? I feel so bad for him
Hello. Hunter may require antibiotics for such a deep cut. I would visit with your veterinarian to see if this is necessary, especially before an infection sets up in the ear. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

I hate to hear the pups got in a fight! Yes, I suspect Dega does need stitches. The photo makes it look like the laceration is pretty long and looks to be full thickness. The problem with ears is that they tend to bleed a lot. I think taking him into the emergency vet is a good idea to get the ear addressed. They may not sedate him and suture it tonight though. Sometimes they will place a bandage, start antibiotics and anti-inflammatories and then address it in the morning. The bandage will at least prevent further damage and help stifle bleeding. I hope this helps with your boy!

My dog was just bitten at the park by another dog. I noticed a small bloody patch on the edge of his left ear. I took him home and rinsed the ear with saline and then trimmed the hair down to see the damage and saw a small bloody line that seems like
You did well. I do not think this requires a trip to the vet as long as it does not get infected. I would apply Neosporine once a day for three days and then leave it alone, but monitor it for infection. Should infection appear (red skin pain, pus), a vet should examine the ear. You did a great job cleaning this up.

My dog was bitten by our other dog this evening. She isn’t bleeding anymore but the wound is open. What should I do?
Poor Gracie! Depending on the size and depth of the wound, it may need to be stitched shut. She will also need antibiotics to prevent infection. In this case, I think it's best that she is seen by a vet right away. The vet can stitch the wound if needed, can check her for any internal damage from the bite, and can prescribe antibiotics as needed. I recommend taking her into a vet now. Best of luck.

An Indian street dog in our locality probably had a fight with other dogs and got his left ear severely injured in the process. It has been around a week till date since he incurred this injury. What medicine or ointment or powder can I give him?
Oh my. Poor guy. Unfortunately this ear has a hole through it and is badly infected. He needs to see a doctor for proper care of this ear and prescribed antibiotics as well as have suturing of the laceration. This cannot be treated at home with much success. For now you can try cleaning it with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water to help prevent further infection, but please schedule an appt with your vet right away or if he does no belong to anyone in particular, then he should be surrender to an animal shelter so that they can use their resources there to try and save this pets ear and eye. Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question. Ye, I do think it needs stitches, and I do not recommend you do this yourself. It's painful for the dog without sedation, and there are no OTC sedatives you can give him. Just because you have human experience does not mean you can suture up a dog, please remember it's an entirely different species. Just because I can suture up animals does not mean I would do it to my child if they needed stitches, I would take them into a doctor. Please do that. I hope this helps!

My pet was injured by another dog while playing.
This is a quite deep injury and underlying tissues seem exposed. A stitch up and antibiotics are needed. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking (if any).
