When should I start deworming my new pug puppy for the first time?

The amount of times the puppy needs to be dewormed really depends on the type of dewormer that is used. It also depends on the type of parasites that the puppy has. The best thing is to deworm him and then have a fecal sample tested for parasites at one of his puppy visits.

Hello. A puppy should be examined for general health & the presence of intestinal parasites by your veterinarian now. It is never a good idea to just deworm because you may be missing some important parasites like coccidia. Vaccinations are usually started at 8 weeks of age & boostered at 12 & 16 weeks of age. If you have any concerns about him including diet due to his very young age, I would take him right away for his first exam and deworming, if he is eating well with no issues, you could wait and take him at 6 weeks for the deworming and vaccine to be done at the same time. Hello. Ideally, you should bring a sample of the stool to your vet for a through analysis. That way, anything unusual can be properly treated. But in the meantime, you can go to any pet retailer & pick up several safe & common dewormers such as Pyrantel pamoate, or Safeguard wormer. Deworming puppies is recommended with pyrantel at 2, 4 and 6 weeks. This can be purchased at any pet store. Vaccines are started at 6 weeks that incude distemper and parvo. Bordetella is not started to 8 weeks and is optional
