My cat just got neutered. How to feed with a cone and use litter?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year old

I just recently neutered my cat & his head is wrapped in a cone now to prevent him from getting near his incidion, I am wondering how should I be feeding him? And can he defecate in the litterbox without risking infection?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern! As for the eating, you can remove the cone temporarily to allow him to eat better. For the litter, I would recommend using shredded paper to prevent any fine dust particles from getting into the incision. I hope this helps!
