My dog vomits and faints. Is it serious or just indigestion?

Hey doc ,i have an indian spitz female,she is almost of 1 year now and since from last 2 ,3 months she has a problem of vomating & after that for some time it seems that she lost her consciousness ,i took her to a vet she said that it's because of indigestion nothing to worry about so can you please help me in this??

That's not normal at all, and it seems a bit severe to lose consciousness over indigestion. I supposed if Pisty was vomiting hard enough, it could trigger a vagal response and subsequent loss of consciousness. I'd take her into another vet for a second opinion.

Dogs can collapse and faint because of vomiting. This is a reflex when vomiting process is stimulating a nerve that slows down the heart rate and dogs may faint as a result of that. The recovery is usually rapid and the dog is back on the feet within seconds. If that what has happened to Aries, you can monitor him at home for the next 15-30 min. If it was only the reflex, he should be back to normal by now. If he is still staggering or looking confused please take him to your local vets as an emergency. Vomiting and balance problem can be related to ear infections, intoxication or even neurological diseases.

She is cute! Vomiting can cause a vasovagal response and the animal could have a syncopal episode (fainting) but I don't believe it would cause a seizure. Are you sure your dog is having a seizure and not just fainting? I know of dogs that vomiting because of the seizure but since you actually induced vomiting that doesn't make sense. I want to know if someone is trying to poison our pets, one dogs was puking all night and the other just lost consciousness and went limp like she was dead. I shook her till she woke up she seems fine now but I honestly thought she was dying
That sounds serious! Even though yournone dog seems okay now I would recommend taking her to a vet right away - she may have had a seizure or have heart disease or low blood sugar. While there are toxins that can cause vomiting and toxins that can cause neurologic symptoms like loss of consciousness it is not very likely that someone is deliberately poisoning your dogs without your knowledge. I’d recommend seeing a veterinarian to have both dogs evaluated.

My 5yo cat Larz vomited and then fainted. His eyes were dilated and he was out of it for a few seconds. He then seemed fine and has been ok since it happened about 45 mins ago. What could be the problem? Is he in immediate danger?
It could be Larz vomited so hard that he passed out. Certain stimuli (such as vomiting like Larz did) affect the vagus nerve which has receptors in many areas of the body including the esophagus and stomach. This, in turn, causes an overload to a part of the nervous system leading to a rapid drop in the heart rate and blood pressure resulting in fainting. I'd keep a close eye on him, and if he vomits again, have him seen by a vet.

My dog has fainting fits but doesn’t lose consciousness.. Our vet wasn’t overly worried. She now has black poo. Today after exercise she fainted again then vomited. The fainting only happens during exercise.
Poor Georgie, This sounds quite distressing for you all. I would recommend having her evaluated again by your veterinarian. Episodes of collapse, especially associated with exercise could indicate any number of issues. Black poop can indicate internal bleeding, which should also be investigated. Your vet may recommend some diagnostics such as a fecal exam, bloodwork and X-rays or an ultrasound to try and determine what is going on.

I'm wondering if Jax may have had a vasovagal episode after vomiting. This is a reflex that sometimes occurs after vomiting and results in a low heart rate and low blood pressure, and sometimes even collapse. While it is not necessarily a sign of something more serious if the vomiting continues or another episode occurs I would recommend seeing your veterinarian so they can make sure something more serious isn't going on - low blood sugar, ingestion of a toxin, or even liver disease could also cause similar symptoms.

Bella was acting like she had to throw up then she just fell over on her side. What could this mean? She has never done this before.
Poor Bella. She may have been trying to hard to throw up that she lost strength and simply collapsed. It could mean nothing, just a reaction to trying to vomit. If this keeps happening, then I would have her seen by a vet. I hope this helps!

If this is a new, sudden behavior, it's a good idea to have Jazmine examined by your vet, especially since she is a senior girl. Sudden symptoms like this could indicate an underlying illness, something obstructing the GI tract, or even changes to the tract itself affecting motility. If she is gulping her food down, feeding smaller meals more often may help prevent her from throwing it all back up as well.

My dog sometimes vomits sometime and there is nothing wrong there is no change in food I do not understand?
Hello. There may be some underlying issues that may be contributing to the occasional vomiting. Thickened intestinal walls, elevated liver enzymes, a dysfunctioning small intestine, food intolerance, intestinal foreign body, the list goes on. A good physical exam is a good place to start. Blood work might be informative, & there are several tests that could be recommended. If nothing is found, an abdominal ultrasound may be diagnostic. Vomiting is not normal, even if it is occasional & intermittent. Please see your veterinarian for further diagnostic recommendations or possible treatments. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Hello and welcome to PetCoach, Sometimes when animals vomit the pressure on the vagal nerve causes a fainting episode. Animals should recovery completely and quickly from this. Since Sqwrt is so young, and hasn't fully recovered, I recommend you have him seen by a vet. They will check him for an upset stomach, might suggest x-rays or bloodwork, and might give him some medications. Best of luck with Sqwrt, I hope he feels better soon!
