My Shih Tzu puppy's hernia incision bleeding, vet closed. What now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | spayed | 10 lbs

6 month Shih Tzu had surgery Thursday 11/14/19 in the morning. She was spayed, inguinal hernia repair, 6 baby teeth pulled and treated with multi advantage for ear mites. She has been fine, but I think she was too active yesterday, she was jumping and trying to play. Today she is eating, drinking and going to bathroom but her hernia incision is having a bloody discharge. Pictures also sent. Today is Sunday so our vet is not open. She is taking half a pill of Carprofen 25mg every 12 hours.

I don't think she needs to get to an emergency vet tonight but tomorrow you should have your vet recheck her. Continue with her medications as directed and try to keep her quiet. You can ice the incision for 5 minutes 2-3 times per day until you get her to the vet. That might help.
