Why is my dog bleeding and passing clots a week after spay surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Akita | Female | spayed | 9 years and 7 months old

My dog was speyed a week past on friday there as she had pyometra. She has been fine since the op but today i noticed some light bleeding from her vulva which has now increased to her passing some dark red clots. Could this be a build up of blood from the op thats now coming out?

Yes, normally they lose blood clots for quite sometime after the op. It is important that the amount decreases over the course of time while Akira remains healthy, eating and her gums remain nice and pink. If you are worried though, have her rechecked.
