Why is my anemic cat losing weight, not eating, and high creatinine?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My 3.5 year vaccination and spayed indie cat was infested with fleas and lost 0.5 kgs weight over the course of 3 weeks. She is not eating properly. Doctor checked her creatinine which was 1.8 compared to creatinine 1 taken 6 months back. Have started anti-biotics for infection. Is her creatinine high because of infection and is that why she is losing weight and not eating properly? Her RBC, haemoglobin is low(anemic). Please advise. God Bless.

The anemia could be from fleas but it could also be from chronic kidney disease. Are the BUN and PHOS also high or just the CREA? I think your vet needs to do some more testing to assess whether or not she is in kidney failure. An abdominal ultrasound, more specific blood testing and a urine test would be needed.
