Why are my cats coughing, sleeping more, and acting temperamental?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 8 years and 5 months old | 12.5 lbs

My cat was throwing up alot 2 days ago. He has stopped vomiting, but since then both him & his sister have both started coughing alot. There is no drainage out of their eyes, but there has been a little from their noses. They both have been sleeping alot more than usual, & both are acting more tempermental than normal. They are eating, drinking, urinating, & poopping normally. One of their siblings passed away at 10 weeks old from feline distemper. Both cats are fixed, & are approx. 8 yrs old.

Hi, and thanks for your question. This sign could be compatible with an upper respiratory tract inflammation/infection or possibly to a tracheitis (inflammatory, allergic, infective). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.
