My dog has a UTI. Is her enrofloxacin dose correct for her weight?

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Female | spayed | 9 years and 5 months old | 31 lbs

my dog has an UTI and was given enrofloxacin 135 mg. she weighs 31 #'s and I am to give her 2 tabs every 24 hrs....I don't think this is the right dose..can you check for me?

The typical dose of enrofloxacin for dogs is 2.5 to 10 mg per pound (5 to 20 mg/kg) orally per day. The total daily dose may be given once a day or divided into twice daily doses. So, the dose she was prescribed is on the high end of the dosing range for her weight but still within the recommended dosage. If you are concerned I suggest you call your vet for clarification. 31 pounds / 2.2 pounds per kg = 14kg 14kg x 20 mg/kg (high end of the dosing range) = 281.8 mg 281.8mg / 135mg tablets = 2 tablets
