My cat's eye waters frequently with no irritation. Vet visit needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 4 months old | 12 lbs

My year old tabby cat’s left eye waters a lot (3-4 times a day), but has recently increased in frequency. It’s been going on for a few months. There doesn’t seem to be anything in his eye or any obvious irritation. Is this something I should make an appointment for or be concerned about?

It’s always best to have the eye checked but if he’s not squinting, no redness or discomfort, no green or yellow discharge then you should be ok to monitor the eye at home. Some eyes water when the tear ducts are plugged or from mild allergies. Do take him in if this continues or worsens.
