Why is my dog's fur moving, mangey, and waxy? Could it be parasites?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 8 years and 10 months old | 45 lbs

i think my dog might worms or mites. she has sections of her fur where it looks mangey and the hair is going the opposite direction of the other fur around it. whats weird is that if i look at it for a sec i can see the hair actually moving in that l.when i tried to brush it it made her skin tighten up there and even further down her fur just when i tried to touch it or brush it. it seems a little waxy along those places as well. iu t hought maybe it was yeast infection but maybe not

If you are seeing movement of the furs, parasites like fleas and/or ticks are more likely. Mites are very very small and not likely big enough to move the hair. I recommend to have Gracie examined by the veterinarian to determine what type of parasite is present so that she can get the correct medication to kill the parasites. It also sounds like she has a secondary skin infection so she needs medication for that as well. I hope this helps. Please feel free to post any additional questions.
