Why is my cat making choking sounds and not eating his food?

My cat sounds like he is choking and hes not really eating his food what could be the problem. Nothing comes up when he makes the sound.

Hi, and thanks for your question. This sign could be compatible with an upper respiratory tract inflammation/infection or possibly he may try to bring up some hairballs. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.
