My dog has squishy, fatty lumps on both sides. Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 12 years and 9 months old | 20 lbs

was playing with dog and felt these two (one on each side) squishy moveable fat balls. they don’t seem to hurt him. i was wondering if this was normal? they feel like fat. the one of the left side is bigger than the other side but they’re both in the same place. i’m holding them out more on the second picture on purpose btw

These lumps needs to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors that could look like that. take him to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the growths and send it to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis.

No it isn't necessarily normal. This is a mass and should be checked by your vet to determine if it is benign or cancerous. Typically squishy masses are benign, whereas firm masses are typically more suspicious for cancer. Taking samples from the mass is the only way to be sure in many cases. I do hope that this mass turns out to be just a lipoma (fatty mass). Best of luck and take care.
