Why is my puppy crying after a vaccine shot? Can I give pain relief?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 2 days old | 4.8 lbs

I have a 9 week old Cavapoo. I took him to the vet today and he got a shot in his back left hip. He is crying when I try to pick him up to take him out to pee. Is this normal and is there anything I can give him for the pain? He is only 4 lbs.

Poor little Frank. Getting vaccines can be painful. Please do not give him any human pain medications. Many are toxic to dogs, and can be fatal if given. Try putting a cold compress where he got the shot to see if that helps. This pain should ease in a day or two but if it doesn't or he appears to be in more pain, have him seen by a vet.

    Please do not give him any human pain medications. Many are toxic to dogs, and can be fatal if given. You can try a cold compress on the area where he got his vaccines to see if that helps. If it does not, then I would have him seen by a vet. Best of luck.

You can see some pain where the vaccines were given. Do not give Penelope any human pain relievers, many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. You can try putting a cold compress on the area where she got her vaccines to see if that helps. She should be back to normal within 24 hours, but if she isn't, have her seen by a vet. Best of luck.

Well my pug Leo who is now 3 months old got a shot today. So he made some noise when he got the shot but after that, nothing. But that was for only a few hours. After those few hours, whenever I want to pick him up to put him in my lap he cries.
He may be experiencing some pain from the vaccine. It should resolve within 24-48 hours. Otherwise, you could ask your vet for an anti-inflammatory or pain medication if it really seems to be bothering him.

I vaccinated my 7 week dachshund Chihuahua mix puppy and he is very painful between his shoulder blades. The vaccine was Spectra 9. What should I do? Thank you.
Hi and thank you for using Boop by Petco! Bruno is such a cute pup! I am sorry he is painful. The pain is likely from the vaccine if you gave it in-between his shoulder blades. I would recommend calling your regular veterinarian for an anti-inflammatory medication or you can wait a day and see if the pain subsides. I would not give any over the counter human medication as it could have adverse side effects. Good luck and I hope bruno feels better!

Hello, My three month old puppy just got her Rabies shot today, and she is really sore. Is there anything that I can give her to ease her pain?
Poor Brandi! You can try putting a cold compress on the spot where she received her vaccine to see if that helps. Leave it on for five minutes at a time a couple of times during the day. If you are concerned she is very painful, I would take her back into the vet for some pain medications. Unfortunately many human pain medications are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given, and it's illegal for me to prescribe any drugs for her without seeing her in person. Good luck!

My puppy had a shot today and has pain around the injection site, enough to make her Yelp loudly. What can I do to help her?
You can apply an ice pack to the area of the injection site for today (if your vet is closed). A bag of frozen peas works well for this as it can conform to the area. Be sure to wrap the ice pack/frozen peas in a thin towel or cloth so it isn't directly touching the skin. You can leave it on for 10-15 minutes and reapply every few hours. If she is still painful tomorrow call your vet and they can decide if she needs some prescription pain medication. Signs that she may need to see a vet right away (an emergency vet) would include severe lethargy, vomiting, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, or hives.

My boyfriends 19 week old chihuahua mix puppy got shots today and tonight when ever you try to pick him up he cries in pain. Is this normal??
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Possible side effects after vaccines include pain at the injection site, lethargy, inappetence and general discomfort. This should subside within 1-2 days. If it does not improve or it worsens, have Lucifer evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Otherwise, Lucifer will likely start feeling better shortly. I took my chihuahua/mix in to get vaccinated earlier today, now he's acting kind of strange and he yelps when I pick him up. Should I be alarmed or is this normal behaviour after treatment?
You can see some pain after getting vaccines, this is normal. Pali should be back to himself in a day or two. Do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. You can put a cold compress on the area where he got the vaccine to see if that helps.

My toy poodle just came back from getting his shots and he’s in a lot of pain even just moving hurts him what can I do to help him
Sometimes vccinations (any injection, for that matter) can be a bit sore for a day or two. If Nano is very painful, take a few ice cubes, put them in a plastic bag, wrap a towel around the bag and cool the injection site for 5 minutes, then stop. Do this a couple of times today (3-4 times) and the pain and potential swelling should be gone by tonight oor at the latest tomorrow morning.

My puppy got 2 shots earlier today, he cries every time we touch his right arm , how can I help him? Why is this happening?
Buster is probably just sore at the injection sites. This can be normal in young, small puppies. The soreness will probably pass in the next 24 hours. In the meantime you can try icing the area and see if that helps. If he is still sore after a day or so you may want to call your veterinarian and see if you can pick up some pain medication to help him be more comfortable. I hope this helps. Is it normal for my dog to be in more pain in left front leg after pain injection from vet she's crying in pain and don't know how to help
No, I would not expect her to be in more pain after an injection for pain. Call the vet who saw her today and give him/her an update. If she didn't have an xray of her leg than she probably should. She may also need additional pain medications if the injection did not help.
