Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Male | neutered
Hi. I have an indoor/outdoor cat. He always used his litterbox in the past with no problems, but he hasn't used it in about a month. He's not going in the house anywhere. He's not straining to pee or poo in his litter box or anywhere else, so I'm assuming that he now exclusively goes outside. Is this the likely explanation or could there be something wrong? I find it concerning that he won't pee or poo all day long, since he used to go during the day...

It should be fine if he’s choosing to go outside. I would think you would find urine or feces in the house if he is going indoors. Many cats prefer to go outside and as long as he has the choice to use the litter box I wouldn’t be concerned.

Yes, your cat should know the difference, however, many cats are so well trained to the litter box that they will actually come in to go to the box rather than pee outside. The litter box is also a safe place, so if your cat does not feel safe peeing outside, it will come in to the safe place to use the box.
