My indoor cat started sneezing after being outside, what's causing it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Longhair | Male | neutered | 8 lbs

My cat Jax has been sneezing multiple times in a row throughout the day. He's an inside cat but he got outside a few times. I have him up to date on all of his shots and he's fixed. He didn't start sneezing until he came back after the 3rd time he got outside. Do you know what could be causing this?

Poor Jax! The two most common reasons are allergies and upper respiratory infection. URI is slightly more common than allergies. Here is a link about URI: https://www.petcoach.co/article/sneezing-and-feline-upper-respiratory-disease/ Lysine for cats can help as can omega 3 fatty acid supplements. Monitor him closely, if you start to see a worsening of the condition or if he is not getting better after a few days, have him examined by the veterinarian. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
