What shots does my pug puppy need? Is the corona vaccine essential?

I got a pug puppy and the owner told me she needs the corona vaccine. I am still unsure if she needs it or not. I wanted to know how can I know what shot to give my puppy?

The corona vaccine isn't part of the core vaccines: those that protect against the most common and most serious diseases. In dogs, the core vaccines are distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis, parainfluenza (those four are covered under combination shot know as DHPPi), and rabies. The corona vaccine may not be needed for Coco. This vaccine is not recommended for all dogs and will be administered based on your dog's lifestyle and risk assessment. You need to ask her vet about it. I hope this help.

Congratulations on adding Coco to your family! Coco's basic vaccines will be distemper/parvo, rabies and bordetella. Depending on where you live Leptospirosis and Lyme vaccines may also be indicated. Coco will need 3-4 rounds of vaccines depending on her age when the series is started. The series will end when Coco is 16-18 weeks of age. Until she goes through the whole series, she will not be protected so get the series started. Please post again if you have any further questions!

Core vaccines typically consist of parvo, distemper, adenovirus and rabies. Bordetella is not considered a core vaccine and some other vaccines may be considered core in the area you live in depending on what diseases are endemic to the area. Hi and thanks for posting on Boop by Petco! A new puppy will need 3 rounds of the DHPP vaccine (distemper-hepatitis-parvovirus-parainfluenza) each round 3-4 weeks apart, and a Rabies virus vaccine given at 12-16 weeks depending on your state. Bordetella, Lyme, leptospirosis, and canine influenza vaccine are optional vaccines you and your veterinarian can decide to do based on Louie’s risk level and life style. I hope this helps!

Hello, Oso should be vaccinated with a Distemper, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza, Hepatitis, and coronavirus. Additionally, he should also be vaccinated for rabies and bordetella. He will need 3 booster shots of the first combo vaccine, a booster of his bordetella, and repeat booster of all of these when he is 1 year of age. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Is the 5way vac for puppies 8 weeks the same vac used for annual in adults
Yes, the distemper/parvo (DHPP) combination vaccinations that we use in puppies are the same as those we use in adults, but some of the ingredients in some of the combination vaccinations are not given until the puppies are older. I would recommend speaking to your veterinarian about which viruses should be included in puppies vaccinations, but they are generally canine distemper, infectious hepatitis, parainfluenza and parvovirus. She is a pretty girl!!! The most important vaccination (and one required by law) is the Rabies vaccine. This is essential. The second most important vaccine is the Distemper vaccine, which is often a combo vaccine sometimes called a DHPP (protects against distemper, canine hepatitis, parvovirus and parainfluenza). These vaccines are considered the "core vaccines" for dogs. Every dog should have them. The rest will depend on her lifestyle. I also recommend the Leptosporosis vaccine for dogs if they spend time outdoors in areas with creeks/puddles/ponds because this disease is a bacteria transmitted to dogs by contaminated water (rodents who have the disease urinate and it contaminates the water and the dogs can acquire it this way). The Lepto vaccine requries a series of 2 booster 3 to 4 weeks apart if she has never had it before. Other vaccines you may consider would include Lyme if your dog is outdoors and exposed to ticks and you are in a lyme endemic area, Bordetella also kn

What other kind of shots does a dog need other than a rabies shot every year ?
Hello there and thank you for your question! In regards to vaccinations, these can be broken up into Core and Non-core vaccines. Core vaccinations are the most important vaccines that a puppy receives. Core vaccinations begin typically at 6-8 weeks of age and consist of multiple series. The most important of these core vaccinations is the DA2PPV or DAPV (this can have many names based on the vaccine brand). What is in this particular vaccine are multiple things. Distemper virus, Adenovirus-2, Parvo virus and /- Parainfluenza. The vaccinations are typically given 2-3 weeks apart and no longer than 6 weeks apart. If 6 weeks go by before the next vaccine is boostered in the puppy series, the entire series will likely need to be restarted depending on the age of the animal. The next core vaccine is going to be the Rabies vaccination. This can be given usually starting at 12 or 16 weeks of age. Hi Danielle, Thank you for rescuing this pup! Basically at this age with no vaccine history she would need basically the first round puppy shot and the rabies vaccine. Then you would do boosters of the puppy shot in 3-4 weeks. Then she will be set for a year. The only truly core vaccine for puppies is the distemper-parvo combination shot (DA2PP), which I am referring to above as the "puppy shot". There are other vaccines available though that you may want to talk to your vet about. These are given depending on her lifestyle and what she may have exposure to. Those include: 1. hello - I have an 8-yr old Shih Tzu/Poodle that has not had any shots. This is the first time we have done this with one of our dogs - I don't know why, but I want to have her "prepped" for the late stages in her life...What shots would be necessary
Hello! For starters, she should have "core" vaccines - DAPP and Rabies. DAPP (distemper/parvo) - Since she is an adult, a single DAPP vaccine will be sufficient for at least 1 year. After 1 year, your vet may recommend checking titers ( a blood test to check for immunity) rather than re-vaccinating after only 1 year. Or, your vet may feel comfortable with considering that single vaccine a 3 year vaccine, or may recommend a booster after 1 year. Rabies- a 1 year Rabies should be given. Another rabies vaccine needs to be given after 1 year..... that 2nd rabies vaccine can be a 3 year vaccine. Beyond that, talk to your vet. Further vaccination recommendations are based on what is of greatest concern in your area, and on what her lifestyle is like.
