How to get my sick puppy to eat and regain appetite?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 3 days old | 11 lbs

(13wk old )I got a dog the other day it was being mistreated. When I got the dog he was passing blood anally with no actual stool just blood. Skin and bones. Took him to the vet.He got a XR antibiotic and they sent me home with Iv fluids for him so I poke my little buddy 3 times a day to hydrate. He will drink water but no food. They weren’t sure if it was Parvo or not because of the negative test result but his white blood cells were critically low. What can I do to get his appetite up?

Poor Nova! Offer him a bland diet. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. I also recommend to call the veterinarian and ask about medications to soothe the stomach and prevent nausea like Cerenia, and antibiotic like Metronidazole, a probiotic like FortiFlora and an appetite stimulant like Entyce. I recommend to treat him symptomatically and aggressively. I hope Nova starts feeling better quickly! Please feel free to post any additional questions.
