My puppy has UTI symptoms. What can I do before the vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Female | unspayed | 35 lbs

My puppy (17 weeks) has possible UTI. I have an appointment with the vet tomorrow, are there any safe home remedies we can try in the meantime to make it easier for her?

Poor Dolly. One important thing to do is take her out frequently. This gives her more opportunity to empty her bladder. Feed her canned food and add water to it to flush her bladder. I hope this helps!

This depends. If Pixie appears otherwise healthy and happy, eats and drinks plenty, you can wait until Monday morning. If she appears lethargic, ill or distressed, or if the urine appears very bloody, then she should be seen by a vet ASAP. Feed her wet/canned food, add water to it, and make sure she drinks a lot of water to help flush the bladder. I hope this helps!

Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Sorry to hear about this puppy. Unfortunately, there really isn't much they can do at home except provide fresh water to keep the urinary tract flushed and the puppy hydrated. I would advise reaching out to the local shelters, rescue groups, humane societies and see if anyone is willing to help them out with this puppy. Untreated this could turn into a kidney infection and a very very sick puppy. I wish you good luck.

I think my dog has a UTI. I want to call ger vet tomorrow to make an appointment as soon as i can. What should i do to prepare for the visit? (She’s had several accidents in the past 24 hours and has been licking her genitals quite a bit)
There is nothing special that you need to do but if you manage to collect fresh urine just before your apointment in a clean plastic container that would be great as a urine analysis will be the first thing your vet wants to do.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Ivy. If possible, I recommend finding a veterinarian while you are traveling. If she has an infection, the sooner it is treated the better. Being a young puppy, her immune system is not fully developed yet. I worry about an infection getting worse or spreading to her kidneys. In the meantime, encourage her to drink as to help flush out her urinary system. I hope this information helps!

Is there anything I can do to help/relief my cat with a uti. Cant get into see vets till tomorrow as emergency is busy all night and I feel so sorry for her 2nd one in 4 months. Thanks
Thank you for using Boop by Petco. Poor Martha, I'm sure she's not feeling well. One thing you can do at home is encourage her to drink or take in more fluids. If she eats canned food, add more water to the food, or if she doesn't usually eat wet food you may want to start switching her to a wet food diet. Be sure to check with her veterinarian if she should be on a prescription diet for urinary issues before making any long term food changes. Do not give her any pain medications at home or any antibiotics you may have access too. Many human medications are toxic to cats. The best thing to do is to get her to the veterinarian as soon as they can get you in. I hope she's feeling better soon.

I suspect Bonsai has UTI, because I noticed him like straining while urinating and has little blood in his urine. What should I give him? I wanted to have him home remedy for now.
You can give Bonsai canned food and add water to it to flush his bladder. You will also need to take him into a vet as soon as possible to have this treated, as this home remedy will not cure it. Best of luck.

Hello. You are doing the right thing, but you need to also encourage Rogue to drink as much as possible. The more fluids she takes in, the more she can flush out the potential cause of her urinary discomfort. In addition to her bowl of water, you can offer low sodium chicken or beef broth, & also add this to her dry food. Continue her cranberry supplement, & as long as she is not in pain & still able to urinate, she will be fine until you can have her evaluated by your veterinarian. If the antibiotics didn't make much difference, I'd be suspicious of puppy vaginitis, which is a relatively common inflammatory condition that can lead to accidents and sometimes make them more susceptible to urinary infections. It generally resolves with age. I would also check for a stricture (this may require sedation as they don't love vaginal palpation...). For now, since your vet hasn't been able to check a urinalysis, that would be the first priority. See if you can get a sample- sneak a small container under her when she squats. If you have to hold onto the sample a few hours before dropping it at your vet, stick it in the fridge, but the fresher the better. If you're having no luck, your vet can collect a sterile sample via cystocentesis. Hope this helps.

Wilma will need to be checked out by a vet in the morning. If she does have a urinary infection, a vet can diagnose it and prescribe medication to treat it. Tonight, feed her canned food and add water to it to flush her bladder. I hope this helps.
