Is spirulina good for dogs and puppies? Is it safe to feed them?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rottweiler | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 27 days old | 88.361 lbs

Is spirulina good for puppies or dogs? A dog food manufacturer makes a food called BOOSTER (All life stages) which contains spirulina. I emailed the manufacturer and their reply is: "Thank you for your inquiry, Our spirulina grow at Israel in very modern and clean farm, This product is safe for human and dogs as well, We care about our product quality and about his safety, Thank you for your inquiry."

To the best of my knowledge, no studies have been done focusing on spirulina. Supplements and what not are no well regulated or even tested to see if they do what the manufacturer claims the do. Spirulina can contain toxins and pollution if not grown carefully under the right conditions. I recommend to stick with established pet food companies who have a proven track record of making quality food in a safe fashion. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
