My cat's green eye is turning brown. Could cat litter be why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 6 years and 8 months old | 14.5 lbs

My cat started with green eyes. The past 1-2 years, we noticed some cat litter got into the left eye and the outer rim of the eye turning brown and gradually turn completely brown over the year. First pic is when we first adopted him 2016, 2nd pic in 2018 and 3rd taken today. Could it be from the cat litter? What could be the reason?

I would be concerned that Ball might have inflammation in his eye that has caused the color change to his iris - this condition is known as anterior uveitis and can have many potential underlying causes. Growths on the iris might be another possibility. I'd recommend having his eyes examined by your vet. They may want to check the eye pressure.
