My cat tore a nail. Can I wait to clean dried blood from her paw?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 11.5 lbs

My cat had a torn toenail and it was treated at the emergency clinic (clipped nail, antibiotic injection, pain medication). The fur around her paw is a bit dirty, seems like blood clotted and dried. I worry that washing her paw so soon would cause her pain since the wound is still new, is it okay to just leave the paw? Can I wait like several days or even a week or so, when he rwound starts to heal a little more, and then gently cleanse off the dried blood stains on her toe?

Yes, it is best to wait and not clean it. Not only could it be painful for her but removing the scab/blood clot, etc could cause it to bleed again. I would wait at least a week to clean it but honestly, she will probably clean it herself when she is ready.
