How to treat my dog's bleeding tail from happy tail syndrome?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 55 lbs

My dog wags his tail so hard the end starts bleeding, I think people call it "happy tail syndrome." How can I treat/stop/properly wrap it so it stops. I tried a tube sock and tape but that comes right off.

It is very difficult to treat happy tail sometimes - most bandages do tend to fall off. I've seen veterinarians wrap the tail between the legs in a bandage on the belly, but this will only work if Dexter's tail is long enough. This is a product that I haven't used but it looks promising: https://www.amazon.com/JorVet-J1445-Starter-Happy-Dressing/dp/B07C3GTWPN You may want to have Dexter's tail examined by your veterinarian to make sure there isn't an infection. Sometimes surgery to amputate the end of the tail is necessary since the wound never heals.
