Why is my old dog not eating, drinking more, and losing weight?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 13 years and 8 months old | 21 lbs

My little dog is 13.5 yrs old. She is not eating her breakfast, looks great, still acts silly, but is drinking more water than usual. She does it eat her dinner, I mix it with Blue canned food a good tablespoon mixed well. Plus, she still loves her Blue treats. She’s only drinking purified water her whole life. I’ve made a vet appointment. But it’s clear she has lost some weight. I’m getting scared. She’s been my whole life.

I can understand your concern here. Weight loss and increased drinking can indicate an underlying endocrine disorder such as Cushings disease, Diabetes, or even just indicate an infection. I would not worry just yet. Let the vet do some bloodwork on Molly to check her overall health and then we can go from there. I hope that things turn out favorable for your pet Molly moving forward. Best of luck and take care. : )
