Why does my attached cat pee on my couch or bed when I leave?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 3 years and 11 months old | 13 lbs

Hello - my cat has been with me since she was a kitten four years ago. She has always been very attached to me. In the past three months or so she has started to pee on my couch or bed if I go out for the night. I’m not sure what has triggered this behavior, she has always been ok with me going away for a weekend or so in the past as long as I have someone to check up on her.

Have you had Cali seen by a vet for this problem? It could be a medical illness that trigger this behavior. Get her into a vet for a health check, and if she checks out ok, then I would get a Feliway diffuser. It releases calming pheromones when plugged in, and may help.
