My dog's fat deposit on her back ruptured. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | English Bulldog | Female | spayed | 12 years and 4 months old | 60 lbs

My dog has had this bump on her back for the last two years. I took her to a vet and they said it was a fat deposit and not an issue. It’s has now ruptured and looks like this. Is there anything I should do or let it drain exct.

It is very likely this mass has changed from a lipoma (fatty deposit) to another kind of mass. For now its best to just clean it with Betadine diluted 50:50 with water, and then get your vet to either sample the mass again or go ahead with surgical removal of the mass. Hopefully it is still a benign (non-cancerous) tumor. Best of luck with Millie moving forward. Take care!
