My dog has scabby, dry, and moist skin. Is it still a yeast infection?

Pet's info: Dog | Cockapoo | Male | neutered | 34 lbs

My foster has very sensitive skin/allergies. Came into rescue riddled in skin issues.most have cleared however he is still battling chronic yeast. Even the slightest amount of starch makes the yeast flare up. My question is can yeast be dry and scabby in places and moist in others? He seems to have darkened scabby areas all over his body even though his fur has improved. Is this still yeast? I already do ACV/hydrogen peroxide rinses, tea tree medicated anti bacterial shampoo & raw frozen food

Yes, these infections can appear like this. Have you had Prince seen by a vet for this problem? If not, you need to do this asap. Do not use tea tree oil shampoo on him, tea tree oil is toxic to dogs.

I am sorry to hear about Precious! I would be concerned about a bacterial or yeast infection of the skin, possibly secondary to allergies if this is an ongoing issue. Malaseb may help depending on how deep the infection is in the skin (be sure to leave it on for 10 minutes or according to package directions before rinsing for full effect) but if the underlying cause of the skin condition is not addressed it will likely come back, so I would recommend an exam at Precious' vet to help determine why her skin is having this issue.

A yeast infection is a good thought and the medicated shampoo would help that condition, but he may need stronger treatment to completely eliminate it. However, the yeast infection is not often the primary cause of the skin problem. More likely, it's due to an internal problem with the dog. It can also be caused by bathing too frequently with innapropriate products like human shampoo or soaps. Hypothyroidism is a condition that is a possible cause. If Kado is chunky, but doesn't eat that much, then that would raise my suspicion. This would have to be diagnosed and treated by a veterinarian. Either way, Kado likely needs a vet and it would be worth having an exam done to see what the possible causes are and the expense. In the meantime I would keep up the medicated dog shampoo baths once every other day. You should also add a dog conditioner to the routine after the medicated bath. I hope that helps and Kado gets better soon.

My dog has developed dry patchy brown flakey skin on her vulva and across her tummy. Could this be a yeast infection?
Yes it could possibly be due to a Malassezia species (an yeast) infection. Usually mild infection like this one, do not need an oral systemic treatment, but an antiseptic shampoo (like Malaseb shampoo - on prescription) would be enough to stop the spreading of it and resolve it. My dog has excess yeast and itches all the times. I have started to give her probiotics and switch her food to no poultry .
Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. Judging from the pictures you've provided, it looks as though the skin has become blackened. This can happen with multiple things not just a yeast infection. If this has not been diagnosed by a veterinarian there may be another cause. If you would like to try at home therapy first before scheduling an appointment with a veterinarian I would suggest using the following: 1. Douxo PS chlorhexidine combination shampoo and bathe twice weekly 2. Malacetic conditioning shampoo and apply to the affected area 2 to 3 times per day. If there is no improvement or the condition worsens I would suggest having this examined by a veterinarian for further testing and treatment. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Snoopy's skin issues could be a result of allergies or even systemic diseases (such as Cushing's disease or hypothyroidism) that can compromise the immune system and weaken the skin barrier to infection. Some yeast infections can be managed with prescription-based shampoos containing climbazole, ketoconazole, or other antifungals. To my knowledge, there are no safe and effective over the counter anti-fungal shampoos for dogs. Your vet should be able to prescribe an appropriate shampoo for Snoopy. I realize that you are unable to medicate Snoopy, but realize that some skin yeast infections do not respond to topical medications or shampoos alone and require oral antifungal medications. Hopefully this won't be an issue for her. I hope that she's on the mend soon!

My dog has gt some red patches. The infected area is smelling. it is some what like yeast infection. Please help me with the treatment .
If the problem is localized to the paw then you could soak the paw in a warm Epsom salt solution and see if that helps clear up the infection. If there are skin lesions in other places on the body then you could bathe with a medication dog shampoo, like Douxo Chlorhexidine shampoo. Otherwise, he should be examined and treated by a vet. He might need an antibiotic, antifungal, and/or other medications to treat.

It is possible we could have yeast or bacteria here. The only way to tell for certain is to do what is called a cytology on the area. Your vet can take a sample (they may use a piece of tape or press a microscope slide directly on the skin) and look at it under the microscope. They can then determine if we have infection present and treat appropriately.

You would need to have him physically examined by your veterinarian to diagnose a skin infection. It could be dry skin or the beginning of a shedding period. Bathe him in a pet approved moisturizing shampoo. Consider adding a fish oil supplement, such as DermCaps or EicosaCaps, to his diet to promote healthy skin and coat.

Hi, thank you for using Boop by Petco. Skin issues can certainly be frustrating. If Mocha isn't responding to the therapy her vet prescribed, please contact them to discuss next steps. It is impossible to diagnose a skin condition from photos alone. Her vet may recommend doing cytology, fungal culture and/or skin scrapes to determine the cause of her infection. In some cases referral to a veterinary dermatologist may be recommended for difficult cases. Sometimes there is underlying endocrine disease or allergies that may require bloodwork to diagnose. In the meantime, a diet for sensitive skin is always a good idea for dogs with recurrent skin infection. My pug has been yeasty for a while now. He is on grain free food, but nothing seems to help him. He has these dried masts on his sides and close to his chest. He does not itch as much, but he is smelly. What can I do?
If you are observing skin lesions and an odor he may have both a bacterial and yeast infection. While some cases can be treated topically and with medicated shampoos, more severe cases often requires oral antibiotic and antifungal therapy. As a first line therapy, start with a medicated shampoo that can be used for both yeast and bacterial infections such as Malaseb or Virbac or products recommended by your veterinarian. Additionally, it is important to make sure he is on a monthly flea prevention as many pets are sensitive to fleas. If this is secondary to allergies or what we refer to as atopy, he may require additional therapy including an allergy vaccine.
