My guinea pig's eye is discolored and looks blind. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Guinea Pig | Male | unneutered

I presume my guinea pig is blind because of a navy bluish blackish colour in the centre of his eye. Around his eye a lot of the eye is disappearing and I was wondering what I should do?

Thanks for reaching out about Mini and including photos. A discoloration in the center of the eye could be a cataract or infection. A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. An infection needs systemic antibiotics. Monitor appetite and try to see your veterinarian early next week. Good luck.
