My dog has pyometra. Should she have surgery or take medicine?

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 60 lbs

My 11 year old female dog has pyometra and she just stopped her last heat cycle three days ago is it preferred to have surgery or try to use medicine and what medicine should I use hormones or just antibiotics thank you soo much

Surgery is definitely the treatment of choice, as it is the only way to definitively resolve the infection. Was she diagnosed with a pyometra by your veterinarian? Typically, Xray or abdominal ultrasound (sonogram of the belly) along with physical exam, history, and bloodwork findings are how we come to this diagnosis. I say that, because of course we wouldn't want her to go to surgery unnecessarily, so please understand that your vet would need to perform some diagnostics to determine that surgery is, indeed, the recommended course of action.
