My dog still has fleas after treatment. Will a bath reverse effects?

Hi I have a Labre doodle who has fleas this morning I brought him to the vet. I still see fleas crawling around on him it’s like 12 hours later I know it takes 24 hours for it to be fully effective. Would it harm him if I gave him a flea bath just to try to get some of the dander off? Would I be reversing the effects Of the collar?

I'm hoping Riley didn't get a spot on treatment, as he would not be able to be bathed. If he didn't get a spot on treatment as well, remove the collar, give him a flea bath, have him dry fully, then put the collar back on. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash his bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home.

Dogs are not supposed to get wet for at least 24 hours after application of a topical flea medication, and more than likely it was washed off during the bath. You can reapply the flea treatment, and I would give them Capstar given you have seen fleas. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes, and it's safe to be given at the same time as the spot on treatment. Just as a note, I would not recommend using Frontline. In my experience (and from the experience of many colleagues), there is a resistance to Frontline, and you may not get the best results from it. I recommend using Advantage or Revolution instead. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash their bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home.

It's not recommended to combine a spot on treatment and a flea collar. You need to disinfect the environment, as that is where fleas live. They jump on the animal to feed, and then jump off. Wash Lincoln's bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. Also make sure to flea treat your cats to prevent them from getting them. I hope this helps!

Unfortunately bathing Maximillian will not help getting rid of the fleas, you will need to buy a good quality flea treatment. As you bathed him, you will need to wait 3 days in order to use any topical spot on treatment, otherwise it will not work, but you can instead use an oral tablet. here is the list of the best flea products on the market. Yes you can give her a bath a week after giving her the spot on. It should not wash off as it will have spread in the top layer of the skin. Just ddo not bathe her within the first two days after applying it.

Great question! Flea collars are not very effective, as you are seeing unfortunately. I can give you an effective flea treatment program for Indy. First, I would give her Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes. Then follow up with a spot on treatment, such as Advantage or Revolution. This is a treatment that has to be used once a month. You will also have to disinfect the environment, as it will be a continuing source of fleas if you don't. Wash her bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. I hope this helps!

When you have a heavy flea infestation, you also have to disinfect the environment as well. Wash theirs bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. Dogs who have heavy flea infestations can also develop flea allergies, which would lead them to continue to be itchy and may affect the fur growing back. I would take them both back into the vet, and the vet can discuss if they do have flea allergies and how to treat them. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! The good thing is that there are many things that can be tried to help in this case. I highly recommend that you consider using a product called Capstar which helps to kill a lot of fleas at once and it can be given every day to effect. I would not give up on the Seresto just yet as it may be failed because of heavy flea exposure and it would otherwise work well. However, if this occurs again especially under regular circumstances then that would be the time to consider other flea preventative products such as Bravecto or Frontline day plus for example. The most effective way of cleaning the house is by vacuuming all the surfaces that have contact with Riley on a daily basis until no fleas are seen. You can now use a comb to remove any fleas or flea dirt. This is very likely going to help. I hope you find this information helpful. Good luck and have a great day!

I applied revolution flea treatment about an hour after a bath, not realizing I should have waited to bathe him. I still see some fleas a day later, is the treatment still going to work? If not, can I apply the next dose early? Thanks!
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It should be ok as long as you applied to topical after the bath. If the fleas are slow moving it is likely the treatment is working. There are still fleas in the environment that have to get on the pet in order to die. Continue the treatment every 4 weeks for 3-4 doses. You can apply after 3 weeks if you are still seeing live fleas. Also remember to treat all pets in the home. Kisses to Charlie!
