Why is my cat vomiting, not eating, and constipated with normal tests?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 8 years and 8 months old | 12 lbs

Hi! My cat is 9 year old neutered cat. He suddenly lost apetite, started to vomit food as it was eaten and stopped passing stools, however, he urinates and drinks water well. The vet has done multiple blood tests that returned normal, X Ray that did not find any foreign bodies, ultrasound that showed all internals are in good shape, endoscopy found nothing, GI tract biopsy that returned normal. However, he is on antisickness medicine, barely eats and retching, any ideas please?

I hate to hear this is happening to Murcis. Situations like this are tough because no test is pointing towards to cause for the illness. I recommend to speak with your veterinarian about a prokinetic drug to help rule out any ileus that gut may be experiencing. This may be temporary if it is related to an underlying condition or permanent it could be the cause of these symptoms. The ultrasound may have given some clues to the gut motility so ask about that as well. I also recommend to discuss a food trial with a hydrolyzed protein diet and possibly even a course of steroids in case this is inflammatory bowel disease. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
