Do German Shepherd puppies need vitamins or supplements for health?

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 24 days old | 63 lbs

Are there any over the counter vitamins that you recommend for German Shepherds? Mine is 6months and very healthy but wondered if there are any vitamins that can benefit him in the long run since he might be a little over 90 pounds when fully grown. Or even any natural foods that will give him the same benefits when given at meal time.

Puppies should never get multivitamins. They don't need it, and you run the risk of overdosing them on certain vitamins. As long as Koda is getting a puppy formulated food, he is getting all the vitamins he needs.

Commercial dog foods are required to contain all necessary vitamins and minerals and Gunner should not need an additional vitamin supplement. I'd recommend purchasing a high quality puppy food intended for large breed dogs and using the feeding recommendations on the bag as a general guide for how much to feed in a day. Many dogs need less food than what is suggested on the bag, and if he doesn't finish the food offered in 15 minutes you don't need to coax him. It is important for large breed puppies to stay lean when growing for appropriate growth of the bones and joints.

A fully balanced diet such as large breed food formulated for the age of your dog (puppy or adult) would not need to be supplemented with any calcium supplement and indeed over supplementation can also cause problems. I suggest you speak to your local food suppliers to suggest a suitable, balanced diet in order to ensure all his needs are being met, not just calcium and phosphorous

I would actually recommend weaning Tobi onto a puppy wet food. he is old enough to do a transition to puppy food. If you do this then you do not need to add in supplements. We typically do not recommend cows milk or cerelac for dogs. If you wanted to still give a type of milk then you can do a puppy milk replacer but again he is old enough to wean off of this. If you feed a good quality puppy food, you shouldn't need to supplement with additional vitamins. Any excess will typically be excreted in the urine. If you feed a homemade diet, vitamin supplementation is recommended. Review the ingredients with your vet to confirm proper dosing.

I would not generally recommend using supplements unless a specific condition has been diagnosed which would benefit from nutritional treatment. I would recommend feeding a high quality, balanced food which has been formulated for his specific size and age. Hello. This may be a pretty low quality food. And adding unnecessary supplements may do more harm than good. You are much better off feeding a good quality large breed puppy food such as the ones made by Purina, Science Diet & Royal Canin. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Can yu suggest any calcium tab product which is brilliant for gsd dog
It is not recommended to give additional calcium to dogs or puppies, as too much can cause health problems and joint problems. Feeding your GSD a high quality dog food will give him all the calcium he needs to be healthy.

Because Ghontu is eating a high quality food, she does not need any multivitamins. Too many vitamins can have adverse effects on her growth, and it's not recommended to give them to dogs unless they are suffering from a nutritional deficiency.

It is not recommended to give vitamins and supplements to a puppy. Lilo should only be getting a puppy formulated dog food, which will provide her with all the supplements and vitamins she needs to grow properly. Giving her too many can cause toxicity as well as adversely affect her growth. I hope this helps!

Do not give Rocky eggshell, he does not need it. Also do not supplement with calcium, it's too easy to overdose on it, and it's not recommended. Feed him a high quality puppy food like Royal Canin, and that will give him all the calcium he needs.
