My outdoor cat has two holes on his neck. Is it infected? Vet?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 4 years and 10 months old | 12 lbs

My cat often goes outside and i have recently noticed an injury around his neck where it seems to be two holes that might be getting infected. Can i do anything about it from home or is it urgent that I need to bring him to the vet? any help is appreciated thank you... :'(

That looks like a bad bite and needs to be seen by a vet right away. Cats that go outside are more likely to get into fights with other cats, and these wounds can easily become infected. Your vet can clean and drain the wound, and provide antibiotics, pain meds and other treatments as needed.

    Since your cat lives outdoors, it's likely he got into a fight with another animal, and the small hole can be a sign of an abscess. It could also be due to an injury or a cuterebra. It sounds like it's really bothering him if he's scratching his neck, and this is something that needs to be treated by a vet. I would take him into the vet first thing Monday for treatment.
