Why does my dog chew furniture and carpet when home alone?

My 6 year old lab has started chewing the couch cushions and the carpet while I'm at work..Any tips for correcting? Thank you... Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 6 years and 9 months old | 75 lbs
