Why are some of my cats losing hair on their backs and tails?

We can't afford a vet. We have taken in multiple cats. We feed Purina dry and wet. A few are losing hair on back and tails. Others are fine. What could it be? What can I do? Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | 9 lbs

If you notice several pets affected, things like fleas, skin mites and ringworm become more suspicious. I recommend to check them/treat them for fleas. If they do not respond with 2 weeks or if they start getting worse, figure out a way to have them examined. You may look into financing through Care Credit or Scratch Pay.
