Cat in labor 9 hours, one dead kitten, bleeding. Is it an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 9 years and 7 months old

My cat has been in labor for the past 9 hours, she only produced one dead kitten an hour ago. She has always had issues with birth and has has never given birth to live offspring, she is 9 years old. This time however it has been particularly difficult, I don't know how a normal cat vagina should look like during or a after labor but it looks kind of big and there is some blood around the opening, not massive bleeding but visible. Please help. I'm sorry if the picture isn't that clear....

I am sorry to hear about Pikachu. You mention a photo but none is attached to your question, so I cannot comment on that, but if she is having contractions that have lasted longer than an hour, she needs veterinary care to help her through this (possibly a c-section at which time they may be able to spay her, which would be advisable if she has had issues with birthing kittens before).
