My dog broke a nail and has green pus. Is it an emergency vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Schnauzer | Male | neutered | 9 years and 10 months old | 20 lbs

My roommate’s dog broke a nail Monday morning. We have kept it clean and the dog hasn’t shown signs of distress (plays, eats, doesn’t limp or excessively favor the paw). But tonight we saw there was some green pus so I’m concerned there is infection. We plan to see our vet tomorrow morning as soon as they can get us in but does this sound dangerous and should we seek an ER tonight?

It's not an emergency, you can take him first thing in the morning. for the future i would recommend to take him to the vet when something like this happens as it tend to be painful and to get infected.
