Why is my cat's diabetic neuropathy spreading even if controlled?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 10 years and 10 months old | 8.6 lbs

If diabetes is contrilled in a cat, would their neuropathy get worse? My vet says recovery from neuropathy takes a while, but I would think if diabetes regulated then it shouldn't be spreading to front paws. Thoughts? Increasing insulin as still urinating too much, drinking too much, and very hungry.

Yes, diabetic neuropathy could take months to improve once diabetes is under control. Considering the signs you are describing I think the glucose level may be still unregulated, as usually increased thirst and urination are the first signs to get under control.
